Description
It's not easy to bring back a project that was nearly abandoned a long time ago. Pokemon Darkfire – a hack of Pokemon Emerald... was resurrected with the zeal of a true Pokemon fan.
Karl has been working on it since the year 2019. Pokemon has always been a method for him to get away. And now, after a decade of primarily lurking, I believe it is time to give back to this wonderful franchise and its community — Pokemon Darkfire!
Story
Recently, Pokémon have been acting strangely. Some people have even gone missing. Others simply refuse to obey their trainer's orders. The region's most feared experts have blamed the outbreak on a deadly Pokémon virus, although there is no convincing evidence.
You are a young man who lives in Tenjo, a beautiful location east of Hoenn. Tyler, your friend, feels it's a good idea to accompany you on an exploration of the region and its beauty after saving the local professor's facility from a Rattata infestation.
After some exploration, you are approached by a mysterious man who claims he has been watching you battle and believes he might use your talent in a far more cruel type of battling, as well as the wealth and renown that will come with it
This conflict should not be overlooked. He then walks away after telling you to "keep it up."
Every time you run across Tyler after this, he begins to act increasingly odd. Following his visit to the Tenjo Administration Offices, he becomes convinced that the government is concealing something from the people, and he vanishes, evidently following his own calling. Following that, you start seeing symbols of the mysterious man who approached you all over the place.
On your way, you come across news that Tyler has gone missing. Given that he was attempting to expose the Tenjo administration in order to further his own conspiracy ideas, it is evident that this does not bode well, and you set out to find him.
As you make new acquaintances, they start to help you in your search for Tyler, but terrifying things are going to happen...
You'll be a part of a clandestine subterranean battle. There are no rules in these kind of confrontations. The crime rate is at an all-time high, as participants make Pokémon fight to the death for money, power, and celebrity.
Everything from terrible underground warfare to missing legendaries and missing humans will be experienced through plot twists and utter freak-outs. Some think a human is in charge of the underground corruption, while others argue that no human could be so cold, and that the strings are being pulled by an evil Pokémon.
Features
DarkFire features a grim tale, which is one of its selling points. It isn't completely dark, but it does have a tone that isn't quite like that of regular Pokemon games.
Despite the grim tone, the graphics in this ROM hack are well done, looking bright, vibrant, and colourful. When it comes to fighting mechanics, there are a lot of Generation VII inspirations. Because you must compete in Battle Tournaments, there are no Gyms here.
